Owner/GM & 16U Full Season Coach
Ben Gray is a native of Farmingdale, Maine. Gray first laced up hockey skates at the young age of 6 and shortly thereafter remained in the net. He attended St.Dominic's Regional High School, where he was their starting goalie for three years. The team also took home two state championship titles while he was at St. Doms.
After High School Ben played for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs, which is part of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. The team won the league championship in 01-02.
The following year he suited up for the Bridgewater Bandits, which was also part of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
In 2003, Gray received a scholarship to attend Lebanon Valley College in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Gray was then signed to the ECHL. During his professional career he played for the Pensacola Ice Pilots, Cincinnati Cyclones and Utah Grizzlies.
Gray also spent many summers running and coaching Peak Performance, one of the premier hockey camps in Minnesota.
In addition to being the Owner and General Manager of the Maine Moose, he also has a background in finance.
18U & 10U Coach
Jeff Ross, a graduate of Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada has been living in Maine for the last 15 years. He is a Physical Education teacher at Medomak Valley High School and has his Master's Degree from the University of Maine at Orono.
Ross has been with the Maine Moose program for the past 5 years, four as a head coach and one as an assistant coach. In his first year as the Moose Elite programs head coach (2009/2010) the team won the league championship. In the fall of 2010 the Elite program changed to a U18 team under the USA hockey umbrella. In 2011 the U18 team won the State championship and in 2012 the team lost in the State finals.
Over the past five years many of the Maine Moose U18 former players have moved on to play on Junior teams throughout the country and at many different levels.
Ross and his wife, Heather, reside in China Maine with their daughter Avery and son Liam.
16U Split Season & 14U AAA Coach
Bill Desmarais developed a passion for hockey at an early age, skating by the time he was two.
Desmarais attended festival camps and played varsity high school hockey for Lewiston, taking home three state championships.
He attended the Select 16 US Hockey development camp, hockey night in Boston and played in Russia and Italy.
Desmarais was awarded honorable mention, Second Team and First Team All-state, State of Maine Defensive Player of the year, as well as, All-Scholastic team for HNIB. He won the New England Prep School Championship for Canterbury, before moving on to St. Anselm and the University of Southern Maine.
Desmarais has coached baseball, softball, soccer and hockey. He lives in Greene, Maine with his wife Janet and enjoys time with his children Kristy-Mae, Brent, Will and Courtney.
